Former ERL Postdoc Listed in Forbes' "30 Under 30"

January 2, 2020

Charles-Henri Clerget, a former postdoctoral associate in MIT Earth Resources Laboratory and MIT Department of Mathematics, has been named to Forbes' prestigious "30 Under 30" list of top young entrepreneurs in 2020. Dr. Clerget is included alongside his co-founders at energy start-up Acoustic Wells, which also won last year's MIT $100K entrepreneurship competition.

According to Forbes, the list is "a wake-up call to cynics who think they have seen it all. The young, creative and bold minds on this year’s 30 Under 30 list are proof positive that the future will be new, exciting and profoundly different."

"Eric Zhang, Charles-Henri Clerget and Louis Creteur and their cofounder Sébastien Mannai have spent the past 6 years developing machine learning algorithms that use IoT sensors embedded in oil and gas fields to 'listen" to what's happening in reservoirs, pumps and pipes in order to detect potential leaks and problems in real-time. By learning how an oilfield 'should' sound, the system helps operators optimize their equipment. Clerget says that Acoustic Wells has achieved a 70% decrease in the venting of methane, a potent greenhouse gas."
