During MITEI’s Spring Symposium, MIT Assistant Professor Iwnetim Abate said that geologic hydrogen opens up the idea of earth as a “factory to produce clean fuels,” utilizing the subsurface heat and pressure instead of relying on burning fossil fuels or natural gas for the same purpose. MIT News takes a closer look at geologic hydrogen as an energy resource, with quotes from ERL/EAPS Profs. Brad Hager and Oliver Jagoutz, as well as Paris Smalls of Eden Geopower, a company founded by ERL students and alumni.

At the 2024 MIT Energy Iniative Spring Symposium, experts weighed whether hydrogen stored in the earth might be a practical energy source of the future.
