FISH: Yingwei Yu (Schlumberger): Artificial Intelligence in Well Construction and Learning

Oct 11, 2019 - 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM EDT

Speaker:

Dr. Yingwei Yu (Schlumberger)

Dr. Yingwei You, Sr. Artificial Intelligence Engineer at Schlumberger, presents "Artificial Intelligence in Well Construction and Learning" at the MIT Earth Resources Laboratory.

"Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies nowadays are widely used in oil & gas industry, from exploration, well construction, well completion, well logging, and production analysis. In this talk, we will focus on how AI is applied in well construction and introduce some recent applications listed as follows:

· GripperNet, a physics model embedded hybrid DNN.

· Deep Kalman Filter, which is used for time series analysis in general.

· Big data analysis with offset well data

· Real time decision making for horizontal well drilling through reinforcement learning."

Yingwei Yu received his PhD in Computer Science from Texas A&M University in 2006. Currently, he is an Artificial Intelligence Engineer at Schlumberger – Katy drilling software center located in Katy, TX since 2016. He is specialized in the application of deep learning in drilling time series data analysis, as well as offset well analysis. Before joining Schlumberger, Yingwei worked as a principle research scientist at IHS-Markit, to apply machine learning in geoscience applications. Yingwei has published a number of professional papers and patents, and also serves as reviewer and committee for many professional societies and conferences, such as SEG, SPCS, and Schlumberger Mathematics Community leader in this year, as well as reviewer for journals, such as SEG Interpretation, Geophysical Journal, Neural Networks, IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing.
