Biographical Overview
Mathias received his BSc and his MSc from the University of Leoben, Austria. He successfully defended his PhD thesis from the same University in January, 2014. The title of his thesis was 'Fluid Invasion Patterns and their Relevance for Geological CO2 Storage’. Mathias, who joined the Juanes' research Group in 2014, has a great generic interest in natural resources e.g, raw minerals and in particular, in geologic energy resources including conventional and unconventional hydrocarbons. Since his academic focus has been on the physics of mineral mining & processing as well as on multiphase flow in porous media, he does have a strong affinity to oil & gas technology, from reservoir engineering to drilling and production. Mathias is a postdoctoral associate focusing on fluid mechanics and porous media flow, relevant to subsurface applications such as enhanced oil recovery, hydraulic fracturing, etc. Currently he studies fluid-fluid displacement phenomena, pattern formation, fracturing as well as the impact of wetting properties on multiphase flow.
