We present an experimental study on Barre granite that compares image correlation on the macro (~cm) and micro (˜μm) scale to the spatio-temporal development of acoustic emissions, and find that in general the data are well-correlated, but that the AE have higher sensitivity while image correlation has higher accuracy.
