Grant Wach, Professor ay Dalhousie U., presents “3-D Analysis of Petroleum & Carbon Storage Systems”.

“There are seldom if any “walls of sand” in any depositional environment‐ Every depositional environment has stratigraphic facies control to fluid flow that produces reservoir heterogeneities that produce baffles and barriers to fluid flow, whether through extraction or injection.

We integrate analogous outcrop and subsurface data from the Atlantic margins and through iterative studies that incorporate basin scale parameters (e.g. plate movements and provenance) down to the microscope/ probe (e.g. complex mineralogy & effective porosity). Shallow seismic analogs are used to understand and characterize deeper reservoirs that are poorly imaged in the seismic data, to provide critical stratigraphic and architectural detail.

Integration with analog outcrop studies increases our “resolution” of these deeper targets. Data and interpretations from outcrop studies provide a sense of scale for reservoir systems where only sparse data are available.”
