Dr. Dan Gostovic (Thermo Fisher Scientific)

ERL’s weekly Friday “FISH” talks will resume in February, but join us on January 12 for this special Thursday talk: Dr. Dan Gostovic, Americas Account Manager at Thermo Fisher Scientific presents: “Improving Reservoir Characterization and Reducing Risk with PerGeos—a new digital rock analysis platform”.

“Interdisciplinary geoscience research organizations need to understand subsurface rock properties and performance by applying innovative imaging technology and advanced processing & modeling software, to improve their respective characterization and understand flow capacity, porosity distribution, porosity connectivity and grain size distribution. Thermo Fisher’s geoscience portfolio leverages hardware, software and services to link material fabric and composition with petrophysical and flow properties to develop a common model and simulate solid:fluid interactions based on integrated multi-disciplinary data. Thermo Fisher’s unique fully integrated methodology leverages high-resolution multi-scale imaging and analysis of materials from CT, micro-CT, SEM images and FIBSEM datasets.”

Dr. Gostovic received his B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Northwestern University, 2004 and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Florida, 2007 and 2009. His dissertation focused on multi-length scale characterization of porous oxides. Since 2003, he has worked in the field of dual-beam 3D reconstruction and analysis and has been an FEI DualBeam (FIBSEM) and PerGeos/Avizo/Amira user since 2005. Before joining FEI, he was a post doctorate fellow at the University of California’s, San Diego, Department of NanoEngineering and, then, worked as an HP R&D Engineer developing a MEMS accelerometer based advanced geophysical seismic system co-funded by Shell Oil Company. Dr. Gostovic is currently at Thermo Fisher’s Oil and Gas Center of Excellence in Houston, TX.
