Dr. Sven Treitel ’53, SM ’55, PhD ’58, a pioneer of digital seismography and distinguished lecturer for both SEG and AAPG, presents “Seismic Digital Signal Processing and its Origins at MIT” at the MIT Earht Resources Laboratory.
“Seismic DSP owes a huge debt to time series analysis, one of whose most powerful tools to this day is the Optimum Least Squares Wiener Filter. Following a brief derivation of the theory, I’ll describe some of the filter’s earliest applications to real seismic recordings. This work was carried out at MIT during the fifties by the Geophysical Analysis Group (GAG), a part of the former Dept. of Geology and Geophysics.”
