Biographical Overview
Stephen Brown received his PhD degree in rock physics from Lamont Doherty Geological Observatory of Columbia University in 1984. After a year of postdoctoral research at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Dr. Brown spent his career contributing to science at Schlumberger-Doll Research, Sandia National Laboratories, Applied Research Associates and New England Research. He joined ERL as a Visiting Scientist in 2009. He later became a part-time research scientist. He is currently also owner/manager of the Earth, Energy, and Environmental consulting business Aprovechar Lab L3C, Montpelier, VT ( Dr. Brown’s primary research interests revolve around fractured and heterogeneous rocks and their properties. He studies the rocks' mechanical, acoustical and electrical properties along with their fluid transport capabilities. He is also interested in the application of geophysical methods to energy and environmental problems.
